For my report I will be talking about the old and the new karate kid.  

KARATE KID 1984

    

The karate kid was produced in 1984 and it was where a kid moved to California with his mother and found himself a target of a group of bullies who have studied karate at the Cobra Kai dojo. The kid was lucky as a repairman named Mr Miyagi was the martial arts master who took the kid that moved to California (Danial) to his side and trained him in order to be fit against the karate kids and he prepared him to compete against the bully’s. He was due to be involved in a competition with them. He eventually trained well and joins the competition and wins against his bully’s with an extreme ending where he delivers a kick to one of his bully’s faces leading him to win the tournament. The director of the film was a guy named John G Avildsen he was an American director which had directed many films such as rocky and a lot more. He unfortunately died in 2017 and was active ever since he was alive. He has 4 children 3 sons and a daughter. The film was produced by a guy named jerry Weintraub who was a film producer from new York.  

The karate kid did have stars such as Robert mark Kamen, Noriyuki pat Morita and Elisabeth Shue who were all featured in the movie. They all had big parts as well which influenced a lot of people to watch the karate kid. There was a huge budget of $8 million that was used to make the film and the box office was a total of $91 million and this shows that a lot of money was invested in the movie as it turned out to be great and loved by many. The funding from the karate kid film came from the us as all the producers and directors were from the united states. This was a Hollywood film and the story is about a kid that had just moved into California getting bullied. The production companies involved were Delphi ll productions and Jerry Weintraub productions. karate kid is not an international co production as the movie was recorded only in the us and is based against a American child that just changed cities.  The karate kid was a mainstream movie as it was created in order to make profit and there was a huge amount of money invested in creating the movie. The karate kid did not receive any funding’s from any funding bodies as the producers had invested in the movie themselves. Technologies such as cameras were used in order for the film to be taken and other equipment’s were used as well, however because the technology wasn’t as developed as it is today, there wasn’t a variety of technology used. Different types of age groups watched the movie but it was mostly aimed at teenagers as they would enjoy watching movies such as the karate kid. This applies to the UK and worldwide. The karate kid has a couple of genres which are:

• In 1985 the movie received a nominee Oscar (actor) which was the best actor in a supporting role who was Pat Morita and another golden globe was given to pat Morita from the Golden globes, USA and a young artist award was given to Elisabeth Shue and a young artist award was given to Willian Zabka. The karate kid isn’t part of a sequence however there was a remake of the movie in 2010 featuring different actors and was directed and produced by different people.  There was 2 production companies for the movie and they were:

Also a lot of cinemas world wide must of viewed the movie however, in the UK VUE must of shown this movie as they are the biggest in the chain.  

KARATE KID 2010: 

The karate kid 2010 is a remake of the original and has a really similar story line where a mother and child move to china and he knows a little bit of karate however he starts to get bullied by another boy who's a lot more advanced than him, the boy finds a friend Mr Han who is a maintenance man who is also a martial arts master. Mr Han teaches the boy how to be good at karate and he makes him compete his bully and eventually wins with the boy doing a face kick to his bully's face and winning the tournament. The film is directed by a man named Harald Zwart and is produced by jerry Weintraub, will smith, Jada Pinkket smith, James Lassiter and ken Stoviz. Only the producer is the same as the original one. The movie stars Jaden smith, Jackie Chan and Taraji p Henson. The budget or the remake was a lot more than the original (8 million USD) as the budget was $40 million and the box office was $359 million. 

The funding also came from the us although it was filmed in china, it was a American movie based on a American child, this was also a Hollywood film as its just a remake of the original one. It is an international co production as the movie is produced and sold in many countries which help gain awareness for the movie. Just like the original one, they didn’t receive any funds from any other funding body. Only the producers invested. A lot of technology way used in the karate kid 2010 e.g. drones, cameras etc and there was a lot more technology used in the 2010 version compared to the original, this is because the technology was more developed. Different type of age groups viewed this movie but I believe that it was aimed at more teenagers than adults as Jaden smith was playing in it and he was a teenager. Numerous cinemas must of shown the movie and in the UK VUEshowed the movie as they are the biggest and everyone goes there to watch a movie. The movie drops under the following genres:

The movie received 3 awards which were:  

• Kids choice award for favorite movie

The movie is part of a series which is called the karate kid series. The production company for the karate kid 2010 was an individual called Robert Mark Kamen.
